While their gardens sleep the winter months away, Mansfield home horticulturalists and others who are interested in environmental stewardship will have a chance to learn about invasive species and how to keep them in check.
Invasive plant species can be found on both the land and in the water, and they can become much more than a nuisance. Mark Warman and Janell Baran, who are subject matter experts, will be sharing their knowledge during a presentation scheduled for January. Admission is $10, which includes light refreshments.
The activity will introduce attendees to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic invasives, and the facilitators will discuss their identification and management. Alternatives to chemical controls will be discussed, and attendees will be invited to ask questions. The workshop will run for two hours at the Richland County Longview Center.
While they may not be able to work on their beds during the winter, gardeners often use the season as a time to learn, plan, and dream about the upcoming spring. A flyer printing company may be helpful in spreading the word about a class, workshop, or other educational opportunity.
This introduction to invasive land and water plant species is scheduled for January 25. It will start at 5:30 pm, and tickets for the evening are available on the Richland Soil and Water website.
