Mansfield planning workshop offered for special needs parents

Facing the future can be a scary prospect for parents of a special needs child. A Mansfield workshop will seek to help provide a guidepost for making these plans, and it is free for parents and caregivers to attend.

The information session will be facilitated by Hickman & Lowder, L.P.A attorney David S. Banas. He will explore the process of planning for the future for special needs families, including how to prepare for the transition from child to adult.

Banas will guide the group through an exploration of how to ensure a child with developmental, physical or other challenges will still have access to care and other supports as they reach adulthood and beyond. They will learn how to put plans into place for their medical care as well as tips for fostering their independence.

It was noted that one of the aspects of the workshop will be a discussion of what parents can do to make sure that their adult child will be cared for once they are no longer able to provide support. He will review the estate planning process, and make sure that all the attendees have a toolbox filled with options and resources they can use in the future.

This sort of event can give those who take part peace of mind. Supplying them with information kits that include the contact details of support organizations can help them to make the most of the event, and these can be provided by a local printing services company.

This chance for special needs parents and caregivers to prepare for the future will be offered on October 9. It will be offered in the Longview Building.
