Many may be surprised to find that loofah sponges are actually a type of plant in the cucumber/squash plant family, and they will be the centerpiece for a workshop planned in Mansfield.
A class that will cover the essentials of soapmaking is on the way to the community, and Ginger Stoops will guide the learning. It will be focused on the cold process method, and simple ingredients will be used.
Participants will each prepare their own soap to keep, and a piece of loofah may be incorporated into each one to provide exfoliation. They will be made during the class and then left to sit for a few days before they are ready to unmold. There will be a variety of additions to choose from, including essential oils and fragrances, and natural coloring agents will also be in the mix.
As the attendees in the session will be working with lye, which is a strong alkali, it is restricted to adults only. Safety waivers, Letterheads, and other types of custom documents can be prepared for a small business by area Stationery printers.
This easy introduction to the art and science of cold process soapmaking is scheduled for Monday, June 9 at Burton Park. It will run from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, and the class has enough room for up to eight learners.
