Mansfield offered chance to get crafty

Crocheting uses a few simple tools to craft everything from scarves to blankets to a full-size coat, and a Mansfield class will help those who are new to the hobby to get started.

Alpaca Meadows is a popular source for fiber to use for a variety of craft projects, and it has planned a two-part workshop that will introduce some of the basics for crocheting. It may be a good fit for the beginner or anyone who can use a bit of a refresher, and everyone can go along at their own pace.

The attendees will start off by learning how to read a pattern and what the stitch abbreviations mean. After this they will begin with the stitches. The basics – including chain, single, half double, double, and back stitching – will all be taught, as will tying a slipknot. Everyone can work on the projects presented, and they will be invited to choose their wool color ahead of time.

A winter crafting class can be a fun way to help beat the January doldrums. Learning materials for a workshop can be prepared by local Print shops.

Alpaca Meadows will begin its two-part crochet class series on Saturday, January 14, with the second part taking place on Saturday, January 28. Both dates will run from 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm.
