Residents of Mansfield who would like to learn a new hobby may want to add their name to the guestlist in a class that brings an old practice into the modern age.
The team at Alpaca Meadows will be teaching the basics of using a drop spindle to transform alpaca roving into yarn that can be used for knitting, crocheting, and other projects. The spindle and other material will be provided as part of the $50 ticket price.
Learners in the session will find out how to spin a single yarn, and they will also be taught some of the jargon used by spinners. When they head for home, they will have the knowledge, instructions, and tools needed for the hobby, and they can use the yarns they make to create an assortment of textiles. Along with their drop spindle, each attendee will receive roving so they can get in plenty of practice. The session will run for one and half hours.
Alpaca Meadows sells drop spindle kits for people to use at home or give as gifts. Companies that prepare crafting and other kits for purchase can order printed Copies of the instructions, which may include diagrams and other graphic design elements, from local Print shops.
Alpaca Meadows will be offering its drop spindle class on Saturday, July 13, starting at 1:00 pm. It is located at 1200 Rock Road.
