At one time, plowing involved the use of actual “horse power.” A Mansfield event is set to take a step back in history, and everyone is invited to see it for themselves.
Malabar Farm State Park will be welcoming all for its Spring Plowing Days. It will take place on a weekend in late April, and those who attend will be able to meet some big but gentle draft horses.
The horses and their people will be showing off their plowing skills, which will help to prepare the venue’s fields for planting. There will be an assortment of activities such as egg and spoon races, a horse pull, and clover leaf barrel racing, and there will also be plowing classes. Demonstrations of log skidding will be on offer, and prizes will be presented to the best dressed teams.
Along with the horses and other fun, the crowd will be able to purchase food by donation from the 4-H Club. Banner printing services for a special event like this will be on offer at professional Print companies.
This annual step back in time to the days when horses were essential on a working farm will be on offer on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. Questions can be directed to the organizers at 419-892-2784, and the park that will host the occasion is located at 4050 Bromfield Road.
