The Galion chapter of the ‘A Special Wish Foundation’ held a concert where more than a dozen bands appeared at the Liederkranz in Mansfield over the past weekend.
According to Keith Bacin, who is the Richland County representative of the Galion chapter for the Foundation, this event is the biggest one that Richland County has ever had.
Every February, the organization holds a rock and blues festival. The event is organized by Frank Medley from the Get-A-Way band, who does most of the legwork. Bacin added that the bands just show up, beginning at noon and playing until midnight. Even though the festival is on a Saturday, the bands give up their time to help out the kids.
Medley’s efforts are a result of the loss of his daughter to a terminal disease in 1996. He knows firsthand how devastating this can be, and so the benefit is his way of supporting others.
Bacin said he has been involved for 20 years in the chapter, and has been working on the festival for just as many years. He hopes that medical advances will eventually make it possible to eliminate the need for the concert.
The Chapter may have turned to flyer printing companies to make the community aware of the concert and the cause it supports, which is to help children with life-threatening disorders to receive a special wish.
