North Central State College in Mansfield has received a grant from the US Department of Labor to assist in training local jobseekers for entry level industrial positions.
Richland County has a variety of industrial positions, but potential employees do not always have the skills needed to be hired. The college is trying to mend the gap by providing an Industrial Readiness Program to match jobseekers with the skills the employers are looking for. It is likely the college has invested a lot of time distributing Brochures to reach out the community to let them know about this free program.
The program is four weeks long and not only trains potential employees, but it offers assistance in helping them find manufacturing jobs once they complete the program. This opens the door for students who never thought they would have the skills or confidence to enter into a career in the industrial field.
Students are also offered information on how to further their education into an associates or even bachelors program. Since the onset of the program, more than 100 jobseekers have been trained for the entry level positions with over 70% finding jobs immediately. Another noteworthy statistic is that over 85% of those hired stay on the job for many months or even years.
The program is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is able to work in the US. It assists potential employees by providing training in soft skills such as being timely, professional, and learning how to write a résumé. It also provides training on equipment used to further the skills of those already employed in the industry, but who want to learn more about areas like hydraulics and robotics. Certifications in some areas can be obtained through the program as well.
