Although Trick-or-Treat is a lot of fun, people sometimes prefer a different activity. Lyndhurst has responded with another take on the holiday.

For the fourth year, Lyndhurst residents will be able to enjoy a “Trick-Or-Treat Trail” that leads them through Lyndhurst Park. The trail starts at the Lyndhurst Community Center and then makes its way through the spooky park, where participants will find Trick-or-Treat Stations, Halloween treats, cider, donuts, and a train ride.

Lyndhurst Park is a green space in a largely residential area. It has several pavilions and a playground surrounded by mature trees that will be the perfect place for ghouls and other scary creatures to hide. The play structures will also provide great hiding places for the kind of spooky going-on that only happens on Halloween.

Halloween and the accompanying activity of Trick-or-Treat go back almost 2,000 years, to the ancient Scottish and Irish peoples. As in Mexican tradition, they believe that on Samhain, the dead return. Modern celebrations reflect these roots.

The trail will be open from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm on October 18 and costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory. The event is designed to be fun rather than extremely scary and is meant for little goblins eight years of age and younger.
