What's Happening in Lyndhurst, OH…

Lyndhurst will be holding its National Night Out for the ninth consecutive year next month.

This is an event that brings together residents; members of the police, fire, and service departments; and other members of the community. It is a chance for residents to meet the women and men who take on the responsibility every day to serve and protect the community.

Featured at the event will be food such as chips, hot dogs, refreshments, and ice cream; giveaways for kids and other activities such as face painting; Dennis Ford providing musical entertainment in the gazebo; magician and illusionist Rich Smith Jr.; and meet the machines. Service Department apparatus, a fire truck, and a police cruiser will be on hand for kids and families to touch and explore. There will also be rides on the Euclid Beach Boys Rocket Ship Car for everyone.

After dark everyone in town is encouraged to turn on their porch and outdoor lights in a display of community spirit.

Such special events can be promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

Matt Peskin founded National Night Out in 1984 in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The annual event began simply with neighbors turning on porch lights and sitting outside their homes. The inaugural event drew 2.5 million participants in 400 communities across 23 states. By 2016, it had grown to include 38 million residents in 16,000 communities nationwide.

National Night Out will be on Tuesday August 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
