An association of Ohio librarians is hosting a conference to discuss issues affecting libraries.
The Northern Ohio Technical Services Librarians have organized an event that features topical presentations on library operations.
Patrick Conners, of the Akron Public Library, will discuss “Generative AI vs. the Catalog Librarian: Practical and Not-So Practical Uses of AI." His talk will touch on how such AI tools as ChatGPT and Gemini can be integrated into a library’s operations to accomplish daily tasks.
Chloe Misorski, who works with the Cleveland Museum of Art, will talk on “Labels in the Recipe Box: Considerations for Physical and Digital Access.” The talk is inspired by the fact the library has been acquiring photobooks created by photographers who are normally marginalized, and needs to create a specialized process to support these Books from the acquisition, to cataloging, through to processing.
The last presentation is by Sandy Jelar Elwell and Libby McCuan of the Cleveland Public Library. They will cover “Picture Book Categories: Adapting Technical Services Workflows for Public Service.” The library began placing picture Books in categories two years ago, and the duo will talk about the impact this decision has had on staff and patrons.
The event is scheduled for Friday, May 17, from 10:00 am until 4:15 pm, at Corporate College East, 4400 Richmond Road in Warrensville Heights, a short distance from Lyndhurst. When events like this are planned, organizers will often use flyer printing to create a handout introducing the speakers.
