Celebration of womens art in Lyndhurst

A new art exhibit is being unveiled in Lyndhurst soon, and a celebration is planned for the occasion.

The Lyndhurst Spring Gala will take place at Lyndhurst Mansion, where an art exhibit, “Women’s Work,” is scheduled to open soon. People attending the event will be able to see the artwork before the exhibit opens to the public.

“Women’s Work” explores art by contemporary women artists who used traditional domestic crafts in their works. There are over 125 pieces in the exhibit that cover 300 years, and they are displayed in both the exhibition gallery and the Lyndhurst Mansion. Historic examples are displayed side-by-side with contemporary artworks.

Historic creators that are represented in the exhibit include Dolley Madison and Martha Washington, while the contemporary artists in the exhibit include Kiki Smith, Judy Chicago, Yoko Ono, Sheila Hicks, and Kara Walker. The New York Times published a story about the exhibition. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create handouts for guests, identifying the pieces in the exhibition.

The Spring Gala will be held June 2. Cocktails will be served on the Mansion Veranda at 6:30 pm, with a buffet dinner to follow at 7:30 pm, in the Carriage House Tent. The Tony Jefferson Trio, a jazz group, will provide live music. The cocktail reception is outdoors, and the buffet is in a tent with good ventilation. However, organizers request that people attending the event wear masks inside the exhibit gallery and the Mansion.
