Santa comes to Kettering

Santa is making a stop in Kettering, a Dayton suburb, several days before he has to set off from the North Pole to deliver toys.

The Jolly Old Elf himself will be at the Town & Country Shopping Center to have breakfast with friends. They will find him at Panera Bread, where they will also find a buffet with a lot of delicious things to eat. The word is that some surprises are planned as well.

The event is in support of the Kettering Backpack Program. This organization, which was begun in 2006, is a non-profit group founded with one objective: fighting childhood hunger each week in 16 middle and elementary schools in Kettering. Every Friday during the school year, at-risk students in these schools receive a bag of food. The food will provide nutrition to the students during the weekend when they cannot have breakfast and lunch at school.

When the program started, there were only 15 students involved. Today, the Kettering Backpack Program feeds almost 600 students weekly. Program officials note that they can help children become successful only because of the continued support of the community and volunteers, who help run events like the upcoming breakfast.

Breakfast with Santa is scheduled for December 17, from 8.00am until 10.00am. The shopping center is at 300 East Stroop Road. When events like this are planned, organizers can create handouts using flyer printing to announce them.
