Joyous music to fill the Kettering air

A special event will be coming to the Dayton suburb of Kettering, offering a day of music.

The Watoto Children’s Choir will perform at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church where they will dance, sing, and share stories of hope and restoration. They will also share some of the music from “Better Days—There Is Hope,” their latest album.

The Watoto Children’s Choir is actually a group of choirs of African children, based at Watoto Church in Kampala, Uganda. The choirs undertake international tours to raise funds, while also increasing awareness for Kampala’s Watoto orphanages. Each choir comprises approximately 18 to 22 Ugandan children.

The word “Watoto” is Swahili for “children,” and the choirs are comprised of children who have lost a parent. There are six choirs operating under the Watoto umbrella, and they visit North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. A group of adult chaperones travels with the choirs to handle the logistics of day-to-day international travel, and to care for the children.

Their performances blend storytelling, creative dance, contemporary gospel, and African rhythms. Their album releases include “What is Love,” “Beautiful Africa,” and their latest, “Wherever You Will Go.”

The Watoto Children’s Choir will appear on Saturday, November 9. The church is located at 4865 Wilmington Pike, and the concert is free to attend. When organizers plan this type of event, they may choose to work with a printer who can use poster printing techniques to create advertising.
