The Dayton suburb of Kettering will be the location of an upcoming workshop that should prove fascinating to food science professionals.
The workshop, “Experience Food Science: Field to Package,” is a two-day event during which attendees will investigate middle school science, chemistry, and biology through food. The workshop will include dinner with professionals in the food industry, as well as a field trip.
The workshop is limited to Ohio high school and middle school teachers, who will take part in food science and biology workshops where they will enjoy hands-on labs, compare brands of foods, and learn the conditions in which food is processed and packaged for use by consumers.
Those participating in the workshops will enjoy a trip to a food processing facility, assess chocolate bars they make themselves, try soy cold foam and make their own soy ice cream, learn how to get to a pH level that inhibits the growth of bacteria, and learn about the importance of disinfection, sanitizing, and cleaning to ensure food safety.
Teachers who complete the workshop will realize soy can be found in ordinary foods, understand the requirements of food labels, and get to grips with the marketing used on food Packaging. They will also know how to test food for safety.
Experience Food Science begins June 13 at 9:00 am and concludes June 14 at 4:00 pm. The location is Kettering Fairmont High School on Shroyer Road. When events like this are planned, organizers will often use brochure printing to create course materials.
