Air Supply is Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock, the first a guitarist and songwriter, while the latter is the lead vocalist. They met while they were performing in Melbourne in the musical “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and formed a vocal duo while still appearing in the play. They released “Love and Other Bruises,” their debut single, and saw it rise to No. 6, while their first album, 1976’s “Air Supply,” climbed into the Top 20 in Australia.
Their success in the United States came in 1980 with their fifth album, “Lost in Love.” It rose to No. 22 on the Billboard charts and was rated 2x Platinum by the RIAA. Their next album, “The One That You Love” rose to No. 10 in both the U.S. and Australia. They were equally successful with their singles, putting nine songs in the top five on the Billboard charts, and six songs in Australia’s Top 40.
They have sold approximately 100 million records throughout the world in their career and are still going strong. A review says:
