An artist synonymous with the rap genre is coming to Cincinnati.
Ice Cube, a native of Los Angeles, began writing raps in ninth grade after a friend challenged him to a contest. In 1986, he formed C.I.A., his first rap group, and then went on to found N.W.A., his second group, a year later. The other founding members of N.W.A. were Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, but Ice Cube was the lead singer and also wrote some of the lyrics on “Straight Outta Compton,” a groundbreaking album that helped shape hip-hop on the West Coast from that of the East. In 1989, Ice Cube left N.W.A. and launched a solo career, which has been a noteworthy success.
He released his solo debut album, “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted” in 1990, a project he undertook in New York, backed up by the production team of the rap group Public Enemy. The album was an immediate hit, helping to advance rap music into the mainstream.
Ice Cube has also had a successful acting career, appearing in almost 40 films. One of his earliest, and most notable, appearances was in “Boyz in the Hood,” written and directed by John Singleton. Ice Cube played Doughboy in the 1991 release. He has also written screenplays, and is comfortable in numerous film genres, from action to comedy.
Ice Cube will be at the Hard Rock Cincinnati on September 14. To publicize events like this, organizers frequently turn to poster printing.
