John Waite is from Lancashire, England, and got his first taste of fame as one of The Babys, a hard-rock band based in London. They dropped their first album, “The Babys,” in 1977, and had some success in the U.S with singles, but not in the U.K., and they disbanded in 1981.
However, Waite’s tenure with the band had brought him to the attention of Chrysalis Records, which signed him and released “Ignition,” his solo debut album, in 1982. The album was only moderately successful. However, his next album, “No Brakes,” was certified Gold thanks to “Missing You,” its lead single, which hit No. 1.
He next got to No. 1 as a member of Bad English, a supergroup he formed with two of his bandmates from The Babys. Their tune “When I See You Smile” was a chart topper.
Bad English broke up in 1992 and Waite resumed his single career, successfully collaborating with artists from Ringo Starr to Alison Krauss. A review of Waite solo says:
“John is perfection. . . . His voice seems to get better and better each year. His energy and stage presence is phenomenal. His sense of humor is as strong as his song writing.”
John Waite will be in Cincinnati on November 19, at Memorial Hall. Events like this can be promoted when organizers use poster printing to create advertisements.
