Vietnam inspiration for Cincinnati coffee house

A new coffee house inspired by the coffee culture of Vietnam just opened in the Pleasant Ridge neighborhood of Cincinnati.

Apricot Coffee House is owned by Michele and Shawn Burroughs, who named it after the place they stayed while they visited Vietnam. While they were in the Asian country, they enjoyed the way the coffee houses welcomed everyone, from attorneys to laborers. Everybody simply relaxed and enjoyed themselves as they might in their own home.

Michele says she wants to recreate that atmosphere, which is why she and her husband are calling Apricot a coffee house rather than a coffee shop. They have also expanded their menu beyond the typical lattes and cappuccinos, offering Vietnamese iced coffee; Turkish coffee; Mexican café de olla, which is coffee made in an earthenware pot and flavored with orange peels, cinnamon, and star anise; Spanish cortados, a non-frothy brew that is half espresso, half milk; and affogato, a Italian dessert featuring gelato covered with hot espresso. New businesses like this can distribute Promotional Products to help build brand recognition.

Apricot also sells smoothies, and what Michele calls ‘slicers’, which are thick toast slices served with various toppings. In addition to all the delicious food and drinks, Apricot gets their coffee from Deeper Roots Coffee, a local roaster, because they work with fair trade farmers. Apricot is open seven days a week, from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm weekdays; Saturdays from 7:30 am until 3:00 pm; and Sundays from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm.
