Southern rockers to come to Cincinnati

A Floridian band is coming to Cincinnati to share a performance they have honed from decades of live shows.

.38 Special formed in 1974 in Jacksonville, Florida, with Donnie Van Zant and Don Barnes as the founding members. Ken Lyons, Jeff Carlisi, Steve Brookins, and Jack Grondin joined a short time later, and in 1977, the group dropped their first album, “.38 Special.” They followed that a year later with “Special Delivery,” which, like their initial effort, displayed the influence of Southern rock on their work.

However, before they released “Rockin’ into the Night,” their third album, they adopted an arena rock approach, which introduced them to a wider audience. In addition to this new sound, they changed their line-up, which has shifted several times in their decades-long career.

Starting in 1981, the band released a series of singles that all reached No. 1 on the Billboard Album Rock Track Chart. They were 1981’s “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You” from 1982, and 1983’s “If I’d Been the One.” In 1988, they had another No. 1 single, “Second Chance,” which appeared on their 1988 album “Rock & Roll Strategy.”

A review says:

".38 Special proved it still has good chops, rocking and rolling . . . [a] full house . . . "

.38 Special will be at the Hard Rock Cincinnati Ballroom on Friday, February 3. Poster printing gives organizers of events like this a mechanism for creating great advertising.
