Singer, songwriter, and composer to greet Cincinnati

A multi-talented artist who has composed everything from original songs to film scores to operas will be appearing soon in Cincinnati.

Rufus Wainwright was born in New York and raised in Montreal, and to date has released 11 studio albums, and contributed to numerous film soundtracks and compilation albums. He has also composed two classical operas, and put music to Shakespeare’s sonnets for a theater piece by Robert Wilson.

The New York Times has called Wainwright a “genuine original” who is now known as one of his generation’s greatest composers, songwriters, and male vocalists. Three of his albums have been nominated for Grammys, including the most recent, 2023’s “Folkocracy.”

He has collaborated with major artists including Sting, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, the Pet Shop Boys, Miley Cyrus, Burt Bacharach, Elton John, and opera star Jessye Norman. He has contributed songs to numerous film soundtracks such as “I Eat Dinner” for “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” “Hallelujah” for the “Shrek” original soundtrack, his version of “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” for “Zoolander,” and "Complainte de la Butte" from “Moulin Rouge.”

A concert review says:

“The best shows are sometimes the ones that leave an impression, and this one certainly has.”

Rufus Wainwright will be at the Ludlow Garage on May 7. When they plan events like this, organizers will often work with poster printing experts to create suitable advertising.
