Lee Salonga was born in Manila and is a recipient of the Order of Lakandula, given by the government of the Philippines to those who, among other criteria, demonstrate “deeds worthy of particular recognition.” Salonga has had a long and successful career in musical theater and in film.
On stage, she was the original Kim in “Miss Saigon,” a musical set in Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War. She was only 18 when she played the role, first in London's West End, and then on Broadway. She won an Olivier Award in London, and when the show transferred to New York, she won a Tony, becoming the first Asian woman to do so, as well as a Theatre World Award.
She played Eponine in the Broadway production of “Les Misérables,” making her the first Asian to undertake the role. In 2006, when the show was revived, she returned to play Fantine.
A review of Salonga in a live performance says:
“Lea’s voice is simply stunning, she has incredible control and a strong vibrato . . . She had her audience entranced . . . and we all knew that we were witnessing a living legend.”
Lea Salonga will appear on November 1, at 2:00 pm and again at 7:00 pm. Poster printing can create advertising for events like this.
