Rock band to blow Cincinnati to Smithereens

A band that has been rocking for more than four decades is on the way to Cincinnati.

The Smithereens are based in New Jersey, where they first got together in 1980. Founding members Mike Mesaros, Dennis Diken, and Jim Babjak are all from Carteret, and the late Pat DiNizio, the lead singer, came from Scotch Plains. Their background has given them a powerful, uncompromising sound that has won them fans worldwide.

They started out playing gigs throughout the local area, from the Stone Pony in New Jersey to Greenwich Village’s Kenny’s Castaways. As their popularity grew, The Smithereens appeared on Saturday Night Live, Conan O’Brien, and The Tonight Show, and were featured on MTV. Since those beginnings, they have played in venues from coast to coast, including Radio City Music Hall in New York City and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. They have toured internationally with stars such as Lou Reed, Tom Petty, and more.

They have now performed live more than 2,500 times and released nearly 20 albums. They have had a major impact on other performers, including Kurt Cobain, who said The Smithereens greatly influenced Nirvana.

A review says:

"A 3 1/2-hour rollicking funhouse. . . . As a compulsive live music addict, I was swept away. One of the best shows I've ever seen."

The Smithereens will be at Cincinnati’s Ludlow Garage on July 30 at 8:30 pm. Flyer printing can be used to create advertising for events like this.
