Celtic Woman is the brainchild of Sharon Browne, David Kavanagh, and David Downes, who had been the musical director of the “Riverdance” show.
Downes recruited the women, who would become the first Celtic Woman group—the five female Irish musicians Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, Lisa Kelly, Órla Fallon, Chloë Agnew, and Máiréad Nesbitt. Downes developed a repertoire for the group that included everything from current songs to traditional Celtic music.
The lineup of Celtic Woman has changed over the years, but the group always retains the same name. Although the original group was only supposed to perform once in Dublin, PBS broadcast the show and kicked off the group's popularity. Since that start, Celtic Woman has toured a number of times, and sold a combined total of more than nine million albums.
A review of a concert said the performers were enthusiastic and energetic, and that as the show progressed:
“. . . the ladies moved gracefully across multileveled platforms, often dancing on their own or with others. Some numbers had the feel of a Broadway show.”
Celtic Woman will appear in the Proctor and Gamble Hall in the Aronoff Center. The concert is set for Thursday, April 9, at 7:00 pm. Brochure printing can provide colorful programs for shows like this one.
