Two runners who have won Cincinnati's Flying Pig Marathon in the past took top honors again this year.
Jack Randall, a resident of Cincinnati, came first in the men's division, with a 2:28:58 time. He shaved nearly five minutes off his 2017 time, when he last won the event. Second place went to Tim Kaiser from Union Kentucky, and third to Alex Gold.
The woman's division was won by Anne Flower, who lives in Lexington, Kentucky, with a time of 2:49:17. She last won the event in 2016, but this year was over six minutes faster. Caitlin Keen came from Fort Worth, Texas, to win second; last year she won the event. Third place went to Kate Nicewicz from Cookeville, Tennessee.
The Flying Pig Marathon was first run in 1999, and a time from this race can be used to qualify for the Boston Marathon. Part of the fun of the event is that runners cross the Taylor-Southgate Bridge, which spans the Ohio River, and move into northern Kentucky. They cross a number of bridges during the race. Organizers of events such as this can use banner printing to create decorations to indicate the route.
Organizers say that this year, over 43,600 people were registered to take part in various events over the span of the three-day event. They came from all 50 states and 29 countries.
