Cincinnati residents and people from throughout the area will be able to explore the Ohio River, raise funds, and have fun all at the same time when Paddlefest takes place. This is the 16th year for the event, according to an article on Cincinnati.com.
Over 2,000 people are expected to take part in the event, which is sponsored by St. Elizabeth Healthcare. The cruise covers nine miles of the Ohio River, and according to the chair and founder of the event, Brewster Rhoads, the festival is a “floating pep rally” on behalf of the river. He says the event gives participants a chance to recognize the value of the river to the region, as well as its majestic beauty.
Paddlefest offers fun for people who like to be outside, and gives them a chance to find out what the river is really like. The Ohio is often thought to be unsafe or dirty, but Rhoads says taking part in the festival is a way people can learn the truth about the waterway.
The event is less about padding than about fun. People come in costume and party while they listen to live music. The number of participants floating along together creates a type of performance art.
Paddlefest is slated for this Saturday, August 5, starting at 7:00 am. Event planners can enhance the day by using colorful Banners as decorations along the riverbank.
