A “Cosmic Cowboy” or an “Outlaw Country” artist is usually thought of as one who remembers tradition but embraces new ways of doing things. This perfectly describes Michael Martin Murphey, who has been topping the charts in Bluegrass, Western Country, and Pop genres for 50 years, release 34 albums.
In addition to his work as a vocalist, he is also celebrated as a songwriter. His material has been recorded by many artists, including Billy Ray Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, and The Monkees.
Murphey has worked in various genres, making his mark in each. Following his “Cosmic Cowboy” days of the 1970s, when he regularly topped the Pop charts, he moved into straight-ahead country in the 1980s, and topped the charts again. In 1985, Murphey and the New Mexico Symphony performed together, leading to Murphey appearing as a guest artist hundreds of times with various symphonies. In the 1990s, he came back to cowboy music, and then in 2009, moved into bluegrass.
A review says:
“An amazing concert by one of the great Texas Outlaws!”
Murphey will be at the Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati on October 26. Audiences enjoy learning about performers’ accomplishment as well as having a setlist, and organizers of events like this can use brochure printing to create suitable programs.
