A venerable Cincinnati bank, the North Side Bank and Trust, plans to open a branch in Hyde Park.
The bank, which has been in business for 123 years, is breaking away from its traditional “footprint” to develop a new concept for this location. Not only will this branch look different, it is the first one to be opened east of I-71.
According to Mike Wisniewski, VP of retail banking for North Side Bank, the institution is using an open floor plan, rather than the typical line of teller windows, to make it feel more like a gathering place than a bank. All employees will be trained so that any one of them can help any customer.
The branch will feature ATMs that will take over some of the functions traditionally handled by tellers, and there will be Wi-Fi, a coffee bar, and bowls for customers' pets, so they can have a drink of water while their people do their banking.
Wisniewski calls the design “non-pretentious”, aimed at eliminating the barriers between bank employees and their customers. He notes that North Side is a community bank, because employees know their customers, and he hopes the design will reinforce that feeling.
North Side Bank could work with a flyer printing company to create items for distribution near the new site when it opens.
