Cincinnati is providing the background for another film, and once again, the city is standing in for another metropolis — this time, it is impersonating New York City in a film about mobster John Gotti.
The movie stars John Travolta as the mob boss, and Travolta's real-life wife, Kelly Preston, as Gotti's wife. Kevin Connolly, who played Eric Murphy, a talent manager, in the ‘Entourage’ film franchise, is set to direct.
Filming began July 25 in the Finneytown neighborhood of Cincinnati, and residents spotted some of the film's stars and crew members. The day before, sharp-eyed fans saw Travolta enjoying a Cincinnati Reds baseball game.
Kristen Erwin Schlotman, who is the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission's executive director, said the city was thrilled to welcome the production. Ohio has revised its Motion Picture Tax Credit, and Schlotman says she expects the measure will encourage producers to film more projects in Cincinnati, taking advantage of the local actors and crew members, as well as the city's unique architecture.
The film needs vehicles from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, and interested parties are invited to contact the production company. People who want to be extras are also invited to contact the filmmakers.
