Know Theatre presents Neverwhere

A novel has been adapted as a stage production by Robert Kauzlaric, and is now running at the Know Theatre of Cincinnati.

Neil Gaiman is a prolific author who may be best known for his work in the comics industry, where his series ‘The Sandman’ has been a hit for years. However, Gaiman has many works in Print, including the novel ‘Neverwhere’, which is the theme for the current play.

The play opens in the London Underground, where a businessman named Richard Mayhew finds a young woman called Door bleeding on the platform. As he tries to save her, Mayhew is drawn into the violent London underworld, which is represented on stage by falling lights, trash on the city streets, and concrete columns. The play moves between offices in London to the entirely different world below the ground, which is populated by incompetent cops and criminals.

Astute audience members will draw parallels between ‘Neverwhere’ and Dante's classic 14th century poem, ‘The Inferno’, about the poet's journey through the underworld. Like Dante, Mayhew has to find his way through a dangerous urban dystopia he does not really understand.

The edgy production fits in with the type of show The Know frequently performs, and is running now. The last day to catch a performance is December 17, at 3:00 pm.

Audiences often like to have memorabilia of the shows they see, and management could help by working with poster printers to create poster for this production.
