Football returns to remodeled Nippert Stadium

Businesspeople in the Short Vine area of Cincinnati are sure to be smiling now that football is back at Nippert Stadium.

The stadium, which is the University of Cincinnati's home field, has had an $86m makeover. The first game in the new arena was played on August 28, and was the first to be played at Nippert since December 2013.

Changes to the field include wider concourses, new restrooms, and more concession stands, all of which make the stadium more attractive to visitors and students.

Local business professionals hope the renovation will translate into increased sales for them. They also note that the new, more attractive venue is spurring development throughout Short Vine. Today, a number of projects are underway to encourage development in the neighborhood.

Among those who moved in is Kelli Gagen, who invested in Mio's Pizzeria about three years ago. She says people questioned her decision to move to Short Vine, but she saw how close it was to the campus, the money being poured into the neighborhood, and the potential of the area. She has never regretted her decision, and adds Short Vine is now one of Cincinnati's hottest neighborhoods.

University officials might work with brochure printers to create a booklet about the renovations and the neighborhood to present to potential students as a recruiting aid.
