Cincinnati's First Batch accelerator has a new class

First Batch, an organization that provides guidance and advice to business start-ups within a short time frame in Cincinnati, will soon hold its first class of 2015.

Reportedly, the makeup of this session, First Batch's third overall, is unusual and wide ranging.

The companies in the accelerator's class includes AVA Yoga Bodywear, which makes equipment specifically for hot vinyasa yoga. Zac Wertz's Beluga Shave Company is also involved, which makes luxury, stainless-steel razors.

Meanwhile, Paper Acorn, a start-up run by Jessica Wolfe, is a crafting company. Wolfe makes unique three-dimensional gift Boxes from paper, along with other decorative items, and kits to help people construct crafts at home. The last company in the 2015 class is Mortal Ski, which was started by Ron Gerdes. His goal is to make skis that are suited to the conditions commonly found on trails in the Midwest.

The accelerator's program is four-months long, and pairs the starting entrepreneurs with experienced manufacturers and mentors. First Batch also provides an $8,000 grant, so the start-up can produce the first prototype of a new product.

In addition, First Batch will be hosting public speakers, who will present topics such as fundraising, branding, and scaling products. As such, First Batch could work with brochure printers to create a booklet describing its operation, and make it available to business schools.
