Cincinnati Reds help with coat distribution

Early in December, hundreds of people came to Cincinnati’s Lindner Family YMCA to pick out gloves and coats to help them stay warm this winter, according to an article on WLWT.com.

The coats have been donated by people throughout the region, and volunteers and personal shoppers were on hand to help people find exactly what they needed. Also on hand were a number of players from the Cincinnati Reds baseball team.

Dick Williams, the Reds’ general manager, said the team “hit a home run” both with the St. Vincent de Paul staff, and with the clients, who were delighted to find a pro baseball player helping them pick out a warm coat. Williams said he wanted to show the players what his community is like, adding that the fans have given the Reds a lot, and the team wants to give back in equal measure.

Max LeMasters, ahed nine, was there with his father, and said it made him feel good to help people have a good holiday.

WLWT News and St. Vincent de Paul have joined forces to collect coats to help those in need. There is still time to drop off new or gently used coats at Kemba Credit Unions or Gold Star Chili locations in the region—the drive ends January 11, 2017.

Projects like this can benefit if organizers work with flyer printing companies, which can create mailers to increase awareness of the event.
