Cincinnati Fire Department gets new equipment

The Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) recently received five new pieces of equipment from E-ONE, a company that manufactures fire trucks and other firefighting apparatus.

The department took delivery of two aerials—sometimes referred to as hook-and-ladder trucks—and three pumpers. The five trucks all have the same cab configuration, which is proprietary to E-ONE and known as the E-ONE Cyclone® cab. The choice of this option was deliberate, according to the CFD's Captain Nick Caliguri. Having all the cabs laid out the same way means all drivers have the same field of visibility, the handling of the vehicles feels similar, and the controls are in the same locations, as are the mirrors.

In addition, all the trucks have E-ONE's ZeroRPM® Idle Mitigation System. The system turns off the truck's engine to power the scene lights, work lights, and warning lights. By shutting off the truck's engine, the system will help the CFD lower the cost of fuel, lessen wear on the engine, reduce air pollution, and lower the noise at the scene of an emergency. Agencies like this could work with Print shops to provide a press release to residents.

E-ONE designs its equipment to specifically meet the needs of the community the engines will serve. Among the specifications for Cincinnati is the fact the aerials are 96” wide, which will help them move through congested traffic. In addition, the rear body has been modified to reduce the swing of the tail.
