“An Evening with George Winston” has been scheduled at the Ludlow Garage, and will bring the best-selling artist to the venue for one evening.
Winston grew up in Montana, Florida, and Mississippi, and as a child enjoyed instrumental R&B and rock from musicians such as Booker T & the M.G.’s, the Ventures, and Floyd Cramer.
In 1967, Winston started playing the organ, inspired by blues, jazz, R&B, and rock, particularly the songs of The Doors. However, once he heard records from the 1920s and 1930s by stride pianists such as “Fats” Waller, he switched to acoustic piano. Playing the solo piano, he also worked out his own style of music, which he called folk piano, and played in this style when he recorded “Ballads and Blues 1972” in 1972. To date, Winston has released 15 solo piano albums; the latest, “Restless Wind,” came out in 2019. Brochure printing can provide programs for events like this, giving background information on the artist.
Winston is also known for his astute observations of socioeconomic conditions, and he frequently plays benefit concerts for worthy causes. One reviewer wrote:
“George played selections from his extensive collection of CDs for over two hours. Spanning his recordings from the last 40 years, he still plays magnificently.”
George Winston will be at the Ludlow Garage at 8:30 pm on December 10.
