Crash Test Dummies and their guest Carlton Stone are on tour, delighting fans who rarely get to see this band. Twenty-five years after they released their album “God Shuffled His Feet,” which was nominated for multiple Grammys, they went on tour for the first time in two decades. The enthusiastic reception to that Anniversary Tour got them back on the road.
The band’s founding members were Brad Roberts and Curtis Riddell, who owned a club in Winnipeg. The two created a bar band with the wonderful name of Bad Brad Roberts and the St. James Rhythm Pigs which, unfortunately, was change to the Crash Test Dummies. The name was suggested by a medical student as a joke, but it stuck.
The band started to gain recognition with their 1991 album “The Ghosts That Haunt Me,” but didn’t achieve mainstream international success until 1993, when they dropped “God Shuffled His Feet.” The album was released just in time to take advantage of a new radio format, adult album-oriented alternative rock. Their songs, especially their biggest hit “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm,” got extensive airplay. A review says:
“Onstage . . . the Dummies sound vibrant after being at it for multiple decades.”
Crash Test Dummies will be at Cincinnati’s Memorial Hall on September 7. To advertise shows like this, organizers often work with poster printing.
