Scavenging to help save environment in Centerville

Centerville will kick off a month-long event to teach people about ecology and have some fun at the same time.

The Centerville-Washington Park District is organizing an entire month’s worth of activities in local parks and is inviting residents to solve the puzzles and uncover ways to help save the planet by doing a small activity every day all year long. Every Friday during the game period, the district will reveal a new clue, which park it is in, and an accompanying activity that will help participants work toward their title of Planeteer Superhero.

Prizes will be awarded each week to those who go to the location and complete the activity. Prize winners will be determined by the number of weekly activities they complete. There is also one grand prize to be awarded.

Typical activities in this type of contest include asking participants to find a certain number of animals or plants, and sometimes photograph them. They might be asked to find and photograph objects like solar panels, which have a direct connection to environmental protection.

The event is suitable for participants of all ages, but is really geared toward children, helping them to appreciate nature and learn how important it is to preserve it. The hunt begins April 7 at 8.00 am and runs through April 28 at various Centerville parks. When events like this are planned, organizers can use flyer printing to create lists for scavenger hunters.
