Off to the races near Centerville

An upcoming event will combine food, spirits, and the Kentucky Derby.

The “Kentucky Bourbon Derby” will feature snacks, appetizers, spirits, small desserts, and a chance to sample various bourbons, all while enjoying one of the most famous horse races in the world, the Kentucky Derby. The Derby, which was first run in 1875, is the first of three races that comprise the “American Triple Crown.” The other two are the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. To be awarded the Triple Crown, a horse has to win all the races.

Mark Gaerke, who is the founder of the Thirsty Rabbit Bourbon Club and the mixologist and lead bartender for the Wooden Shoe Inn in Minster, will lead the Bourbon Tasting. The main event will be the opportunity to watch the Kentucky Derby, on television, with live narration.

The Sunset Shire Horses will also be part of the event. Shire horses are draft horses that originated in Britain. At various times, Shire horses have held records for being the tallest and largest horses in the.

Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite Derby clothing, since prizes will be given for best hat, best dressed, and for picking the winner of the race. Business Cards can be exchanged at events like this, where attendees share similar interests.

The Bourbon Tasting is scheduled for May 7, from 2.30 pm until 7.30 pm, at The Estate at Sunset Farm in Bellbrook, a short distance from Centerville.
