A special event just for grandparents and grandchildren is scheduled in Centerville.
The Kennard Nature Nook in Grant Park is the location of the upcoming Grandparents Day Tea Party, which will have two sittings. The program will feature crafts, lemonade, teas, other light refreshments, and a story. Although grandparents and their grandchildren are the center of the celebration, all family members are welcome.
The Nature Nook is not really a nook, but a free-standing building with a large meeting room, kitchen, and spacious deck. The deck provides a gorgeous view over part of the park, including Holes Creek.
Marian McQuade is the founder of Grandparents Day. She began campaigning for it in 1970, hoping it would encourage young people to appreciate seniors and their contributions. The first state to recognize the occasion was West Virginia in 1973, and it became a national holiday in 1979 under President Carter.
Grandparents Day Tea Party A is scheduled for September 5, from 5.00 pm until 6.00 pm, and Tea Party B is also September 5, but from 6.45 pm until 7.45 pm. Only one registration is needed per family. which must be made by August 29. The Kennard Nature Nook is at 6588 McEwen Road. When events like this are planned, organizers will often reach out to printers, who can use poster printing techniques to create advertising for it.
