Connect Centerville enjoys successful first year

Connect Centerville recently celebrated its first full year of operations. It is an initiative established to help immigrant families integrate with local schools and the local community.

The Heren Foundation donated $30,000 in 2018 to help get Connect Centerville up and running. Cho Tak Wong, Fuyao Global’s chairman, started the Heren Foundation and the money was well-received by students and host families that are grateful for all the help that the program has given them. In the first year of operations, Connect Centerville hosted several events that helped to raise its profile within the local community.

The Host Family Initiative is one of Connect Centerville’s flagship projects. Megan LeMaster, an English Language Learner coach in Centerville, stated:

“In Centerville, we’ve had an influx of new families from other countries over the past few years, so we wanted to put together something to welcome those recently arrived families.”

Sophie Wen is a woman from China who moved to Centerville along with her two young boys. Both of them are enrolled in Centerville schools. Connect Centerville helps them to integrate into the community by offering to help them with understanding the local culture.
