A dance in Centerville will feature sounds of swing.
The Hauer Swing Band will be providing the music for the upcoming Christmas Dance. The band comprises some of the finest musicians from the local area who will be performing seasonal melodies, standards, and swing. The band plays songs made famous by popular artists such as Michael Bublé and Frank Sinatra, both known as “crooners,” that is, singers who specialize in ballads. Some of Sinatra’s ballads include “Night and Day,” “Star Dust,” and “Laura.” These songs are slower in tempo and invite leisurely dancing.
The band also has up-tempo numbers on its play list. They will perform the Jitterbug, Romance, Waltz, Rhumba, Samba, and swing. Swing is the term given to the music performed by the “big bands” of the 1930s and 1940s, who had leaders whose names are legendary: Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, and Glenn Miller. Swing standards include “Moonglow” and “In the Mood.”
Chris Haines is the leader of the band, which has appeared at venues such as Library Park, Blue Ash Park, the Moraine Country Club, the Dayton Country Club, Piqua Park, Riverscape, Sinclair, the University of Dayton, the Fraze Pavilion and many more.
The dance is set for December 17, from 7.00 pm until 10.00 pm, at the Hidden Gem Music Club on Miamisburg Centerville Road. Attendees of events like these enjoy knowing the music, which organizers can provide by using brochure printing to create programs.
