Centerville calls out to artists

The Centerville-Washington Park District hosts a variety of programs, and a special opportunity is coming up soon.

The Watercolor Winter Landscapes workshop gives participants a chance to create a painting. The session starts with a quick study of watercolor gradation, which is the term for the way in which a color grows lighter as more water is added. An artist might start with a dark blue, and add water to lighten it, paint the lighter shade next to the dark one, then lighten that, and so on.

After the gradation lesson, artists will use the wet-in-wet technique to create the background. This means the painter puts down the first layer and adds different colors while the first is still wet. The top layer is added using the wet-on-dry technique, where the details are finished after the bottom layers are dry. The participants will be able to take home their landscapes. Hosts of events like this can use flyer printing to create instruction sheets.

The painting event is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, in the Community Room at Activity Center Park. The fee is $30 for Centerville residents and $39 for non-residents, and the deadline for registration is Friday, January 26. The session is limited to those 18 and older. Residents need to enter “Dayton” as their city when signing up, as the system does not recognize either “Washington Township” or “Centerville” as the address.
