Amherst dog owners have two opportunities to attend dog care workshops during the next few weeks.
On Tuesday, February 27, there will the first Basic “Awesome Dog” group class that will cover behavior and obedience training. The class will meet on seven consecutive Tuesday evenings beginning at 8:00 pm, with graduation on April 9. The workshops at the Alpha-Dog Pet Center will be between 90 and 120 minutes long and cost $300.
Dogs must be over four months old and have up-to-date vaccinations. Topics to be covered will include basic “come,” “sit,” “stay,” and “down” commands, leash skills, relaxation tips, and common behavioral issues such as jumping, barking, and chewing. Preregistration is required.
A Pet CPR, First Aid, and Care session will take the form of an eight-hour class that will cover first aid skills, senior care, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) techniques, and wellness and health information for cats and dogs. Skills taught will include muzzling and restraining, primary assessment, rescue breathing, canine and feline CPR, choking management, bleeding and shock management, and snout-to-tail assessment.
Lectures will be on bites and stings, heat and cold injuries, seizures, and senior care risk factors, Signs, symptoms, and euthanasia. Tickets are $125.

The Pet CPR, First-Aid, and Care class will take place, Sunday, March 3 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at Alpha-Dog Pet Center, 46370 Middle Ridge Road.
