Amherst relishes Taste of History

Sandstone Village will be celebrating America's 250 Anniversary by going back in time with a Military Living History Event: A Taste of History 2026 coming over Father's Day weekend.

More than 5,000 reenactors from as far away as Canada will be descending on the venue to set up field kitchens. For a small donation, attendees may sample military rations the common soldier ate from across all eras from ancient and classical and medieval to early modern, American Historical, 20th century conflicts and modern and contemporary). The kitchens will vie for Over-all Champion and People's Choice.

Visitors (more than 5,000 attended last year) may also experience military life, camp followers and home front displays. There will be demonstrations including shooting. The venue will offer hand-on kids' activities and military surplus, and vendors will be selling military-themed items.

Admission and parking will be free. Shuttles will be running from Amherst Junior High, 548 Milan Avenue.

The event will be hosted by Amherst Historical Society, Military History Preservation Group, Amherst VFW Post 1662 and the Lorain County Visitors Bureau.

Those organizations that support events like this often get poster printing done a few weeks before the event and hang Posters in their gathering places and around town.

The Taste of History 2026 will take place Friday June 19th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday, June 20th from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at Sandstone Village, 763 Milan Avenue.
