Amherst welcomes spring jazz events

Amherst will continue to be treated to high quality jazz performances over March and April.

The Carle After Dark series will feature Rob Fontana and Vernon David, a dynamic jazz cello and piano duo that blends classical with improvisation. Much of the music will feature pieces intertwined with melodies reminiscent of famous jazz composers such as Frank Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Michel Petrucciani, Chick Corea and Bill Evans.

This program will take place March 5th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Eric Carle Museum, 125 West Bay Road.

Jazz Fest Presents Peter Bernstein Quartet. Peter has made 14 recordings as a soloist and over 300 with other artists. He has played on concert, club and festivals all over the globe.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 on event night.

The Peter Bernstein Quartet will perform March 7th from 8 pm to 10 pm at Amherst Oyster Bar at the Drake, 44 North Pleasant Street. The Bar will donate 20% of that night's dinner-service profits to the Northampton Jazz Festival coming in September.

Civil Disobedience will be at the Iron Horse, 12 Center Street, Northampton on Sunday, April 12th from 7 pm to 9 pm. The five-piece band will play compositions from jazz greats from the 60's Blue Note era.

Tickets start at $42.
