Amherst history event back for second year

Amherst's Historical Society, along with Military History Preservation Group, will be presenting its Taste of History in mid-June. Event organizers hope to match or exceed the total of 2,500 guests who attended last year's inaugural event.

Using original recipes from the various wartime periods, live meal preparation reenactments will demonstrate techniques, using rations that were available during that timeframe. Food samples will be available for a donation, and people can meander around the field kitchens and vote for their favorites in the Best Taste, Best Overall, Best Display, and People's Choice categories. Winners in each category will get an award.

Attendees may also view military displays, shooting demonstrations, and activities for the children. Over 100 professional reenactments of different time periods from the Roman Legions to today will provide interactive experiences, as well as viewing options.

Vendors will also be onsite selling history-related items and military goods. Those selling at events such as this often have special Business Cards printed beforehand featuring event-themed imagery and color schemes.

Admission will be free, and a free shuttle service will run between the event site and the Amherst Junior High School parking lot at 548 Milan Avenue.

The event will take place rain or shine on Friday, June 14 and Saturday, June 15 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Sandstone Village, 763 Milan Avenue.
