Amherst anglers have a chance to reel in some cash next month.
Fishers who have been allowed admission through Mercury Outboards, Ranger Boats, The Walleye Federation or Bass Pro Shops/Cabel's will be competing for cash prizes in the 2024 Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Team Championship.
At 6:45 am, the event will begin with take-off ceremonies, and the first boats will leave at first safe light or 7:00 am. Prizes will amount to $250,000. The weigh-in will start at 3:00 pm.
Scoring will be determined by the total pound/ounce weight of walleye, saugeye, and sauger caught by each team. Bag and length limits will be announced before the first boat leaves the dock. This is a catch-and-release tournament, so an eight-ounce deduction will be applied for every dead fish entry. The top 25 teams will go on to compete in Saturday's Final Round. Tournament winners will be based on the three-day total weight of qualified fish caught.
All boats must be at least 16 feet long and propeller driven. Anglers need to wear inflatable personal flotation devices (PFDs) and the boat must also carry at a least two chest-type non-inflatable life preservers.
Viewers may watch the boats leave on YouTube from the Port Lorain rooftop camera. Signage, clothing, and equipment featuring the Cabela Logo Design will be welcome.
The 2024 Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's National Team Championship will take place Thursday, May 9 to Saturday May 11 at Black River Landing, 319 Black River Lane, Lorain.
