Amherst area celebrates winter with festival

Those here in Amherst who enjoy Ohio winters and a good old hometown celebration may be heading to Lorain Winterfest coming in mid-November.

A parade will kick off the festival and the holiday season with floats, flag units, marching bands, sports teams, drill teams, drum and bugle groups, and elected officials. The route will begin off 8th Street at Black River Landing South end and finish on 4th Street at Veteran’s Park.

From 5:00pm to 6:00pm, Veteran’s Park will feature Christmas carols, live entertainment, and a tree lighting ceremony.

From 5:00pm to 8:00pm, City Center will be abuzz with a Secret Santa Shop, face painting, magician, and children’s crafts. Fireworks will be launched from behind City Hall beginning at 6:00pm.

The Black River Landing will have visits with Santa at Santa’s North Pole, Christmas displays, a live reindeer exhibit, and food trucks from 5:30pm to 9:00pm. Lorain’s caboose C-3855 will be lit with hundreds of Christmas lights.

For the 10th year, the International Trees and Trains will be returning to the Black River Transportation Center, 421 Black River Lane.

The $4000 Fireworks Sponsor needs to get their Logo Design to the event organizers as soon as possible to be included in the event’s large banner and downtown banner printing.

The 2023 Welcome to Lorain Winterfest has been scheduled for Saturday, November 25th, beginning at 4:30pm.
