Veteran vocal group to perform in Akron theater
The classic American vocal group The 5th Dimension, will perform at Akron's Goodyear Theater in late January. This performance will be a part of the group's 2022 World Tour.
The 5th Dimension, previously known as the Versatiles, got their first big break in 1967. It was during this year that they released their single "Up, Up, and Away," which became the group's first No. 1 song. This single won the group their first Grammy Award. Overall, the group has sold over 25 million records and made 22 Top 40 hits, including five No. 1 songs. In total, 14 of their records have gone gold and six have gone silver. They have also given performances on stages such as the Radio City Music Hall and the Hollywood Bowl and also made appearances on TV shows like the Ed Sullivan Show and Soul Train.
Despite having just recently celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2015, the group is continuing to fill up a wide variety of venues all over the world, although Florence LaRue is the only original member still in the group.
