University of Akron to host comedy musical

The University of Akron will host the Broadway comedy musical Tootsie late this November. This musical will be a part of the University's Broadway in Akron series.

Tootsie is a musical comedy based on a 1982 American comedy film. Its world premiere took place on September 30th, 2018 at the Cadillac Palace Theater in Chicago. The Broadway production opened on April 23rd, 2019, and ran for 293 regular performances. As of now, there is a US national tour, which started in 2020 at the Shea's Buffalo Theater in New York. There are also productions planned across the world.

Tootsie tells the story of an actor, Michael Dorsey, who is unable to find work after he gets a reputation for being difficult to work with. Desperate to get his career going, he decides to create a female alter ego, Dorothy Michaels, and audition for a role in a stage musical that turns out to be a bit of a mess. There, Michael meets a girl he falls in love with, Julie Nichols, tries to save the show, and runs into a whole lot of other difficult situations.

The play will be performed on Tuesday, November 29, and Wednesday, November 30, at the E.J. Thomas, which is located at 198 Hill St. Venues like the University of Akron can benefit from using flyer printing services to promote their shows.
